The general rule of thumb is to purchase glasses that are opposite of your face shape.
For example if you have a round face,
you do not want to purchase glasses that are round.
If you have narrow eyes, you do not want to purchase glasses that appear
to be very wide. There are many more important factors that come into play when purchasing glasses. Your skin tone, hair color,
lifestyle and function of sunglasses are all variables that are much more important than face shape. On the subject of skin
tone and hair color, the fair skinned and blondes match well with tortoise or muted toned frames. Black tends to be too harsh.
If you have
very dark hair or have a darker skin tone, black frames will do well for you. This is a general rule of thumb as some blondes prefer black frames as client with
darker hair enjoy tortoise.
If you are very active, Sport and function sunglasses like
Oakley,
Smith,
Spy,
Dragon etc. are all good brands. If you are around water or driving
often, a pair of Polarized sunglasses would be more than accomodating for your needs. Brands like
Maui Jim,
Hobie,
Revo and
Serengeti are all known for the technology of their polarized lenses.
If you are looking to turn heads, coordinate your wardrobe
or be the most fashion forward that you can be, check out brands like
Gucci and
Versace and would most likely be your pick for some head
turns.
All in all your best bet is to assess your needs, wants and desires and match the brand and style to what you need.
